Class Teachers: Mrs J Hachani
Welcome back to another exciting year at Marshfield! I am pleased to be able to introduce myself to you all formally, having met some of you already. My name is Mrs Hachani and we will be ably assisted this year by the wonderful Mrs Park. As I’m sure you know, year 2 will be a bit of a ‘step up’ for many children this year, as they become increasingly independent and confident learners.
This term, our topic is ‘Arr! Pirates!’. We will be learning all about famous pirates from history and exploring the world’s seas, oceans and continents in our pirate ships. In English, we will be reading and writing different types of texts connected to our theme, to further help us in our learning.
Our PE days are on Wednesdays (Games) and Thursdays (Dance / Gymnastics), so please ensure that your child is provided with suitable PE kit on these days. Please can you also ensure that any items are labelled, to avoid mix-ups when changing.
Water and Snacks
As in year 1, all children are entitled to free fruit or vegetables during morning or afternoon break. If you would like your children to bring in their own snack, please be mindful that only fruit and vegetable snacks are allowed, in line with our school policy. Children may also wish to bring a water bottle into class with them, to ensure they stay hydrated throughout the day and to encourage healthy habits for life. Please be aware that only water may be drunk in-class.
As in class 2, there will be many opportunities to learn outside of school. On Friday, your child will be issued with a ‘home learning book’, which will contain weekly home learning activities, due in by the following Wednesday at the latest. This week’s homework will be connected to our school value which, this term, is Respect. Spelling homework is also issued weekly and must be completed.
As in class 2, your child will also be issued with reading books and a reading comments book. The expectation is that each child will read a minimum of five times per week. You are also encouraged to continue reading a range of books to your child, to develop a love of reading and develop their understanding of different text types.
As in class 2, we will continue to use Class Dojo to reinforce and reward positive behaviour. You will shortly be issued with a code to access your child’s account, so that you can celebrate successes with your child. Small prizes and rewards will be issued on occasion to reinforce good behaviour.
Thank you again for making me feel welcome in Marshfield. I look forward to meeting with you all as we continue to work together.
