Safeguarding

Children’s Safety

Your child’s safety and security in school are of paramount importance to us. The school’s Safeguarding policy is regularly reviewed and updated by the governing body. All of our staff and volunteers are checked for their suitability to work with children under Child Protection guidance from the Department for Education (DFE).

The school’s health and safety committee meets on a regular basis to ensure that the school premises and daily practices comply with current regulations. Children are required to conduct themselves in a safe manner around the school building and through regular fire drills will learn the correct procedure for leaving the building in the event of a fire.

First Aid certificates are held by most members of staff who are able to administer basic medical treatment. All accidents are recorded and parents informed should an injury cause concern. In the event of a more serious injury, parents will be called immediately. It is essential that emergency contact numbers are updated for this purpose

All staff, both teaching and non-teaching, have a responsibility to care for children and to take appropriate action in cases of suspected or reported child abuse.

“Our first priority is your child’s welfare and therefore there may be occasions when our concern about your child means that we have to consult other agencies before we contact you. The procedures we follow have been laid down by the South Gloucestershire Area Child Protection Procedural Manual”.

Data Protection

In accordance with the Data Protection Act, pupils’ personal information is processed lawfully. This applies to manual files and computer records. Parents are asked to sign a blanket consent form regarding the use of images in school documentation and media publicity.

Freedom of Information

A guide to information available from the school under the model publication scheme is available in the Reception area.

Internet Safety

The school’s internet service provider includes a filtering facility appropriate to primary aged children. Internet access is supervised at all times.

Non-Smoking Policy

Smoking is not permitted throughout our school buildings and grounds. This policy applies to all staff and visitors both day and evening.

Health & Safety

We have regular fire practices to ensure our children know how to leave the building safely. Health & Safety is continually reviewed by the relevant committee, including safer routes to school, all laid out in our Health & Safety Policy.

Dogs

Dogs are not allowed on the school premises. There are rings for dogs to be attached to, situated just outside the school gate.
